REFLEX 8

Reflex is a title used when depicting water reflections without any view of the original subject. Exploring the innumerable and elusive ‘shapes of water’ Exemplified by the following quotation ‘He looked into the water and saw that it a was made up of a thousand, thousand ,thousand and one currents, each one a different colour, weaving in and out of each other like a liquid tapestry of breathtaking complexity’ Salman Rushdie Haroun and the Sea of Stories

Baptistry Pisa lr.jpg

BAPTISTRY, PISA 2

A painting of the Baptistry in Pisa joining a previous work completed in 2003.

The Baptistry is one of a quartet of sights in the Piazza del Duomo (Piazza dei Miracoli), including the Monumental Cemetry, the Duomo itself and of course the more famous Leaning Tower (Campanile).

In my view the Baptistry, the largest in Italty., is by far the more complete architectural creation. The image here is taken looking upwards with the curved facade of the Baptistry set against the bright sharp Mediterranean sun.

Stability of thy Times 4 lr.JPG

STABILITY OF THY TIMES 4

This is the fourth in the Series ‘Stability of thy Times’ based upon the wonderful glass sculpture by Lee Lawrie over the entrance to the main reception in the Rockefeller Centre, New York.

This sculpture is transparent, reflective and refractive which coupled with the changing lighting, during the day or at night provides a myriad of effects and atmospheres. This is from a similar viewpoint to Stability of thy Times 3 but is very different in the response.

SOHO NEW YORK 7

Another series that is ongoing. This explores the relative fragility of the Ironwork set against the solidity of the masonry construction behind. The shadows cast provide intricate patterns and also provide the depth that allows the initial understanding of the image.

The intricacy creates an image that rewards further examination

Herge 1.jpg

HERGE 1

A new series of smaller works in poster style using Gouache (matt opaque watercolour).

This is of the Herge Museum in Louvain-la-Neuve Belgium, a new museum designed by Christian de Portzamparc consisting of four internal exhibition areas connected by bridges crossing the Atrium. This image is a view from one of those Bridges, looking up at the rooflight and the various coloured planes.

The Museum itself is fascinating and shows what a skilled draughtsman Herge ( Georges Prosper Remi ) was.
